Veterinary medicine is a growing field, offering careers that are both dynamic and rewarding. Begin a career as a Veterinary Assistant in just a few months! We will begin by giving students a comprehensive, practical introduction to the field so they can become outfitted with important veterinary knowledge that is valuable to employers. The coursework will focus on the care of dogs and cats in a general practice setting. Next, further develop your understanding of veterinary medicine. Advanced topics will include identification and treatment of common diseases and parasites, pet nutrition, diagnostic imaging and surgical assisting. In addition to a passing grade based on attendance, coursework, quizzes and tests, students must complete a 25-hour internship at a local veterinary facility to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course. The internship will help students to gain practical experience in a clinical setting. A set of scrubs and a watch with a second hand are required. All other materials are included in the course fee. Also included is a membership to the online Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN) for the duration of the class. VSPN is a world-wide community for veterinary technicians and assistants with access to message boards, continuing education classes, medical rounds, free handouts and more. This benefit expands access to other veterinary professionals and unique learning opportunities that augment the program. Students must have graduated from high school to take this course.
"Offering a quick shout-out to endorse this offering. I took the course and it was packed with information and the instructor welcomes discussion. The practicum allows for applying all aspects of learning and practicing skills. For anyone interested in animals, this course is a winner!"
