Experiencing the abuse that comes from living or working with a narcissist is quite different from being in a domestic violence situation. The aftermath can include anxiety, hypervigilance, a pervasive sense of toxic shame, emotional flashbacks, and overwhelming feelings of helplessness and worthlessness when in the presence of the abuser. These feelings carry far beyond the abusive relationship and into the rest of the victim's life. We will look at the symptoms of narcissistic abuse and learn interventions to assist in the recovery of the client/victim. We will also explore assumptions about the victims and victim shaming as it impacts our approach to client support. We will also learn how to avoid and escape the emotional abuse web of the narcissist. (3 Hours) Early-bird deadline: June 7. Instructor: Yvette Semon, PCC-S. Provides continuing education for counselors, nurses and social workers.
